St. Matthews is a small city inside Louisville’s east end, known for its shopping, restaurants and older neighborhoods. Shelbyville Road, two malls and the Watterson Expressway bring heavy traffic through a compact area. If you need a St. Matthews, KY personal injury lawyer, Forman & Associates Accident Injury Lawyers represents people hurt in St. Matthews and nearby. Our office at 1139 S. 4th St. is about seven miles west, roughly 15 minutes, so meeting in person is easy.

St. Matthews has one of the busiest retail areas in the region. Drivers head to Mall St. Matthews and the Oxmoor Center, turn in and out of shopping centers along Shelbyville Road, and merge on and off I-264 at Shelbyville Road and Breckenridge Lane. That produces rear-end crashes in stop-and-go traffic, turning crashes at busy intersections and collisions in parking lots and garages. Older side streets with parked cars and sidewalks add pedestrians and cyclists, especially around Frankfort Avenue and Chenoweth Lane.
St. Matthews has its own city government and police department, but injury lawsuits still go to Jefferson Circuit Court at the Jefferson County Judicial Center, 700 W. Jefferson St., Louisville (Kentucky Court of Justice county listing).
Crashes in mall lots and parking garages are common, and fault can be disputed because there are fewer lane markings and signals. Property owners often have cameras covering entrances and garages, but footage is usually overwritten quickly. A fall in a store or garage is a premises claim, not a car claim, and it may have a one-year deadline. Pedestrians struck crossing Shelbyville Road or walking through a lot can suffer serious injuries. See our slip and fall, premises liability and pedestrian collision pages, and our TRIMARC camera guide for crashes on the Watterson.
St. Matthews crashes on Shelbyville Road follow Kentucky no-fault law. PIP pays first. Suit against the responsible driver is generally due within two years of injury or the last PIP payment (KRS 304.39-230).
To get started with a St. Matthews, KY personal injury lawyer, keep the report number from the St. Matthews Police or LMPD, photos of the scene and the name of the store, garage or business nearby, and your hospital records. If you fell, ask the manager to write an incident report and save the video.
The older part of St. Matthews, around Frankfort Avenue, Chenoweth Lane and Westport Road, has restaurants, bars and shops packed close together, with on-street parking and pedestrians crossing at all hours. A rail line also crosses several busy streets, and traffic backs up across neighborhoods when trains pass. Impatient drivers cut through residential streets to get around the backup. If you were hurt in a crash on one of these side streets, neighbors’ cameras may have captured it. Ask early, because most home systems keep footage for only a few days or weeks.
Usually the other driver, but the property owner can share responsibility in some cases, for example if lighting or layout played a role.
Still in Jefferson Circuit Court at the Judicial Center downtown.
Often one year for injuries that don’t involve a motor vehicle, so call soon.
