Do I Have a Case? Free Kentucky Injury Claim Checker

Answer six quick questions about what happened and get a plain-English starting point: deadlines, fault and next steps under Kentucky law.

Reviewed by Larry Forman, Attorney.

After an accident, the first question is often simple: is this worth calling a lawyer about? This free checker walks through the issues a lawyer looks at first: whether you were hurt, who was at fault, how much time has passed and whether you’ve signed anything. It doesn’t estimate a dollar value, and it isn’t a substitute for talking with a lawyer, but it can help you know what to ask.

Key takeaways

  • Six questions, about one minute; nothing you enter leaves your browser.
  • Kentucky deadlines are short: one year for most injury claims, two for most motor vehicle claims.
  • Being partly at fault doesn’t bar a Kentucky claim.
  • Your results end with a way to reach us for a free case review.

Do I have a case? Six quick questions

Answer six questions for a plain-English starting point. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere; it all stays in your browser.

Were you hurt?
What happened?
Who caused it?
When did it happen?
Have you dealt with an insurance company?
Did someone die as a result?

What the checker looks at

  • Injury: a personal injury claim needs an injury. Property damage alone is usually an insurance matter.
  • Fault: Kentucky uses pure comparative fault: your share of fault reduces your recovery but doesn’t bar it (KRS 411.182).
  • Time: Most Kentucky personal injury claims must be filed within one year (KRS 413.140). Most motor vehicle injury claims have two years from the injury or the last PIP payment, whichever is later (KRS 304.39-230). Use our statute of limitations calculator for a closer estimate.
  • Paperwork: a signed release can end a claim, so get advice before you sign.
  • Type of case: medical, nursing home and government claims have extra rules.

What it can’t tell you

It can’t judge evidence, insurance coverage, the full extent of your injuries or what a claim might be worth. Those depend on facts only a conversation can uncover. Our do I need a lawyer guide explains when a lawyer usually makes a difference.

Frequently asked questions

Is the checker confidential?

Your answers stay in your browser and aren’t sent to us. If you want us to review your situation, call or request a free case review.

Can the checker tell me what my case is worth?

No. Case value depends on many facts, including injuries, treatment, fault and insurance coverage.

What if the checker says my deadline may have passed?

Call right away. Some exceptions can extend a deadline, and only a lawyer can confirm your dates.
